Julia commenced her dance training in 1973 aged four years. She was enrolled into The Benson Stage Academy, Whitby branch and started her Ballet and Tap training with the Principal Miss Barbara Benson-Smith. Over the next few years her natural aptitude for dance became apparent, passing all her Ballet and Tap grades with excellent results.
Realising Julia’s potential, Miss Benson produced a UKA Dance syllabus and encouraged Julia to go for her first Teaching Diploma. In 1985 Julia gained her Teaching Diploma at the age of sixteen years, making her one of the youngest Dance Teachers in the country.
In the same year Julia entered into a professional dance career working with various theatre companies up and down the country, always returning to teach at the Academy in the Autumn where she taught alongside Miss Benson up to taking over as Principal and proprietor of the Academy in 2010. Her qualifications as an Examiner and Fellow for UKA Dance brought Julia to act as adjudicator for the UKA National Scholarships. She has also held lectures at the UKA annual conference in Blackpool on many occasions.
